From Book reviews, bad medicine practices and fun spins on our nightly news; The Grocery List from Hell covers every nook and cranny in an enjoyable, light and entertaining fashion.

This Blogger also loves eBay and shares many interesting and fun finds from the bizarre to the practical. A twist here and there on the ever growing not so practical such as a Divine Potato Chip.

As a late arriver on the Blogosphere Shuttle, this blogger obviously took the time to develop a webblog with a focus and central subject point. The posts are well written, rounded and thought out. The template is pleasing and very original. I absolutely love the subtle banner that at first glance may appear to be a crumpled brown grocery bag. Then upon a second look it turns into an apparition from Hell.

So much for the Divine Potato Chip!

Beyond the Outhouse

It's been awhile since I've put some time into my award blogging and I have a lot of catching up to do. For now I want to take some time to focus on Blogs of merit of all genre's, places, ideas and dreams. Today allow me to start with Peter from Beyond the Outhouse. Peter is an astounding photographer and recently has been posting photographs taken from around the world.

I've chosen the photo above to feature not only because it is doggone cute. Nor because it's title of Christmas Dreams appeals to me this time of year. I do so because the peacefulness - the art of dreams is what this entire blog features. Every photo shares a dream whether it be in the form of a Buddhist Prayer, Lady Liberty welcoming Dreamers of freedom from shores far away or the fallen dreams of soldiers returning from war.

Peter has an excellent way of photographing people in a light that captures them in their essence. Thank you Peter for sharing your excellent photography.

Steve Don't Eat It!

Introducing another Twisted Blog Award. (I know I've been slacking onthe awards lately) Anyhoo, I usually don't like to steal another's post but this guy had me laughing through his entire blog!! Here is just one of the many hilarious features found at "Steve Don't Eat It!" For some great laughs and if you have a strong stomach this evening go on over and say hello. Don't be shy. =O)

Cuitlacoche

Cuitlacoche is a black fungus that infects corn fields, making the kernels bulbous and swollen as they fill with spores. It also goes by the name Huitlacoche. If you're having trouble with the pronounciation, it's: Cuitlacoche (kweet-lah-KOH-chay) or Huitlacoche (dat-sfuckin-NAS-tee).

It's safe to say this is the first time I've ever paid for an infection. I am, of course, not counting the one I got from your mother. (YES! You walked right into that.)

I've read that U.S. farmers consider it a disease and destroy it. Farmers in Mexico put it in cans and sell it as a delicacy. I travelled far and wide to find my own precious can of Cuitlacoche. Okay, it was at my supermarket, but I had to drive like two miles to get there and got stuck at a couple of lights.

Enough chit-chat. I'm gonna go dine on a can of disease. But before I do, I really do feel bad about that cheap mother joke. My sincere apologies to you and your lovely mom. (The filthy whore.) Be right back!

Oh, sweet Christ. Visually, I think the bar for Steve, Don't Eat It! is about to be set at a new low. So I'm going to ease you people into this one. Let's begin with a single spore-filled kernel before we examine the entire contents.

The following picture is a swear-to-God-unretouched-side-by-side comparison of a normal kernel of corn and an infected huitlacoche kernel, both from the same can.

These results can also be achieved by bombarding a kernel of corn with gamma rays and then making it angry. (But be warned. You won't like it when it's angry.)

Alright, you've waited long enough.

Presenting the entire can of imported sludge (that I was actually charged money for)...

Don't worry, I checked the ingredients before I tasted it. "Smoker's lung" was not on there.

Before I even got the whole can open, I detected a vague aroma of sweet corn, along with what I can only describe as a deep musky funk. Put 'em together and it smells like corn that forgot to wipe.

In just a single serving, you'll experience a wide array of textures. Without getting too gross, it's because the disease is more advanced in some kernels than others. One bite might be kinda chewy, while the next might burst in your mouth like a black pus-filled blister. (Whoops, forgot about the not-too-gross thing. Oh well. Nuts to you!)

So, how does Huitlacoche taste? Does it matter?? LOOK AT IT!

I guess it would be fair to say it doesn't taste as truly horrible as it looks. The flavor is elusive and difficult to describe, but I'll try: "Kinda yucky." Hey, that wasn't so hard after all.

For any connoisseurs, I'm not sure if this stuff would go better with red wine or white. How about with a bottle of Bactine? I've always found that goes great with infections.

Huitlacoche also goes by some other names. It's frequently called Maize Mushroom, Corn Smut, and Mexican Truffle. I've even heard it referred to as "Devil Poop"-- but that was only after I said it. (For God's sake, it comes with little bits of corn already in it! Talk about a time-saver.)

I thought it was interesting that Monteblanco chose to make their company logo the focal point of the can. I also found a can of huitlacoche from Goya. They, too, have downplayed the visuals by hiding it in a mild-mannered burrito.

I went ahead and made a new can label for the gang back at Cuitlacoche Central. As always, this is a free service.

Well, that brings us to the end of a long overdue Steve, Don't Eat It! And now I have a belly full of diseased corn. Maybe I should go see a doctor about a penicillin shot.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved writing and yearned to be a food journalist when I grew up. When I moved out on my own for the first time, I discovered a second passion ... cooking. Now, many years later, I still have a love for both and started my site, Sweetnicks, in an effort to combine them.

What are New (to Me) Blogger on the Block Thursdays?

Now, "new" doesn't necessarily mean they're new, just new to me. The food blogging community is a wonderfully supportive group, and they provide great inspiration, advice, ideas and motivation constantly. Often times, I'm so busy working on my own blog, that I don't get enough time to surf around to see any new food bloggers that might have popped up, and it's a community growing by leaps and bounds. So by doing this event regularly, it serves two purposes: 1) It's a reminder to go check out my fellow food bloggers and 2) It will highlight a fun new one for you guys.

What is ARF/5-A-Day Tuesday?

Simple. Just my little way of keeping healthier eating in check. Every Tuesday, food bloggers who made a recipe that includes an ARF (Antioxidant Rich Food), fruit, veggie or any combination of the three can be included in my ARF/5-A-Day Tuesday evening round-up. The recipe doesn't necessarily have to have been made that day. Just e-mail me your permalink by 9 pm EST on Tuesday to be included, and post a link to my site in your post on your site, so your readers can get a chance to check out the round-up as well. "What I miss most about NYC is the food. Around every corner, a gem of a restaurant waited to be discovered. And any type of food you wanted -- Italian, Jewish, Thai, Japanese, Indian -- was just a phone call or subway ride away. New York is the UN of cuisine.

I also miss taking classes at the Institute of Culinary Education, where I devoted myself to leisurely hours cooking. Chocolate, pastries, pastas, meats, souffles: all good stuff. Mmmm, those were the days."

Meet Laura Rebecca from the Finger Lakes Region in New York State and come see what's cooking! Currently this week she is featuring Simply Summer; simple recipes taking advantage of summer's bounty. A great refreshing start with some Raspberry Blackberry Crumb Jumbles. So delicious!

Then on to some refreshing mixed drink recipes and one in particular that captured my fancy is the feature photo here of Turkey Corn Chili. It looks so fabulous I can practically smell it through my monitor and what a wonderful light way to enjoy a rib sticking meal in the midst of summer. The Turkey works perfectly.

Her archives feature delightful holiday recipes and oh my goodness, even a recipe for Doggie Bisquits! I know for certain my two little guys would adore these fresh from the oven treats.

Bay Area Burgers

Whoever loves Burgers raise your hand! For our next Mix Pix Foodie-blog winner take a peek over at Bay Area Burgers. If you live in the Oakland, CA area or are planning to visit San Francisco - here is your first stop for an awesome Burger Tour.

You can count on the straight up 411 when it comes to a good burger vs. bad burger. This blogger shares his utter disappointments as well as his beefy-licious finds. The Spazio Burger may leave you feeling flat and lunch at the Burger Joint could leave a person with cotton mouth because it is so dry.

Be certain to check out Luka's Sunday Soul Brunch and enjoy the rare burger that is so alive, I fear it may moooove off the plate. Just joking and a bad groaner joke at that, but a delicious burger photo and tasty blog experience.

However, speaking of groaning my tummy is growling like there is no tomorrow after reading this blogger's review on My Big Ass (Burger) from Brickhouse Cafe & Bar. You will so enjoy reading this post as well as the others that you'll be left full and plenty satisfied.

I Eat Meat

Perhaps this isnt' a foodie-blog per se, but here is a great guy who loves to play with his food! Meet Patrick Moser the famous Pumpkin Carver and venture into his world of meat!!

Now of course, if you are a Vegan you may feel a tad bit offended - so please, visit his Pumpkins instead. However for the carnivores out there come and take a peek at some holiday "Meatmas" surprises that Patrick loves to cook up for the holidays.

Patrick is a diabetic so his diet is strictly limited to refraining from refined carbs, flours and sugars. Meat is virtually carbless and a Joy to this Foodie. Can you imagine a basil herbed sausage stuffed roaster draped in dripping bacon slices?

From making chickens dance to dangling their legs in a makeshift rotisserie seasoned with Lemon Pepper, Patrick has brought the talent of grilling and roasting to new never seen before levels. Just as he does with his amazing Grumpkins.

Kitchen Latin

For our next nominee, here is a wonderful Foodie-blog from Germany called Kitchen Latin. Most posts are written in English but please feel free to use the Alta-Vista Babelfish to translate the entire blog for recipes and some wonderful recipe and kitchen help tips.

She shares everything from golden brown and flaky Chilean Empanadas to our feature photo of Buttermilk Jelly with Currants. If you are in the mood for daring to try something different. Kitchen Latin is a wonderful place to begin.

There are some wonderful Summer drinks and recipes that would surely cool off our hottest afternoons. As well as a delightful Rosemary flatbread that is surely tempting me to get off my computer and head on over to the kitchen and try my hand at this. Can't you just smell it baking right from your monitors? Okay, maybe not but virtual sniff of these wonderful creations would be an interesting technical concept if ever developed.

The Summer Pudding is also a winning recipe and very different. I just love berries and cherries and this looks so refreshing. Then of course there is the most minty refreshing recipe in her current post of homemade mint ice cream with chocolate.

Acme Instant Food

The Dalai Lama said to "approach love and cooking with reckless abandon." I absolutely agree with that. I suppose it also helps to explain the mess in my kitchen.

Oh my heavens! My oven door just blew open after reading Acme Instant Food's blog. It is incredibly funny and absolutely delicious. Even if you are a person who doesn't like food (Could there be such a person?) this blog is a delight to read.

They include many scrumptious recipes just in case you have to whip up a little something for a "diner thing" you are scheduled to attend. Are kitchen disasters common in your home? Oh come on now, we all had a few! Be sure to read The Trash Compactor Files where caramels battle Global Warming.

Try out the recipe for Madonna's Discofied French Toast for breakfast. Warm up a can of soup for lunch, or not. Then get your fun on with some leftovers for supper and see what culinary Iron Chef delights Kev' and Ed can whip up for you. I'm spending forever reading this wonderful blog and getting quite hungry. I'm very tempted to move in with these guys. They are awesome Foodies!

Meet Allison from Anything With Cheese a culinary student sharing her Foodie Adventures. The Post Sweetbread Prep had me laughing and loosing my lunch. I thought biology class was bad!! The very idea of eating let alone preparing Thymus sounds scary, but as this weblog title suggests... Anything with Cheese!! (Ketchup won't hurt either.)

I never gave it a thought that although I enjoy cooking and consider myself a Foodie - that in culinary school and in the Chef world, you can be forced to prepare meals and dishes that don't necessarily appeal to you.

Her creativity is delicious and I even enjoy her posts about the ordinary tried and true culinary treasures, like breakfast!! With Cheese no less! Yum!

My oh my, I'm already starting to regret running a Foodie-Blog contest - these entries are amazing, including our new Mix Pix Winner, Raving Foodie. I'm sooooo hungry just looking.

From mixed drinks, pizza, pasta, sushi and fish - this Foodie covers it all so delightfully! I have to hand an award over just for the ability to make such perfect sushi and nigiri! How do you do it? What a wonderful summertime meal that is light and filling. This blogger is on time when said, "Those who don't barbeque, do sushi."

The Reubenesque on Broadway has me cramming to find a recipe to recreate this at home. Can I do it? In the south where corned beef is hard to come by? Oh yes I can and will. I can taste the meal just by looking at it here.

Nancyland, Vancouver Foodie Fun!

This is simply a journal of my food adventures, mainly in Vancouver, BC. Basically, a place for me to live out my long-time fantasy of being a restaurant reviewer. I hope that readers will find the reviews useful. I will include random bits about other foodie adventures like grocery and cookware shopping, cooking/baking projects, cooking classes, and eventually I will add a cartoon "The Adventures of Ha Gow" my little Chinese dim sum shrimp-filled dumpling dude. Foodies of the city, unite!

Visit Nancyland, our first Mix Pix Foodie Award winner! Here she shares reviews of restaurants in the Vancouver area as well as everything else Foodie. Often sharing photos of the wonderful cuisine and certainly a blog that will make you hungry just by reading.

When is Multi-grain bread really multi-grain? Here our blogger lets us know the finer details of shopping for bread and advises us to stay clear of the squishy loafs. I love how she vividly tells us of her experience eating outside on the patio overlooking Horseshoe Bay. So much so I'm longing to go!!

Our next Photoblog Winner is Rohit Mattoo from Edinburgh, Scotland. Here you will find a treasure chest of amazing talent and photos from a variety of Categories from abstract to sepia. Yet again I am having a difficult time choosing just one of them to feature next to this review. I love all of them!

I usually favor the natural but here I am absolutely blown away by Rohit's Abstract Photography. He has a wonderful eye for geometrics that makes these finished photos absolutely hypnotizing. I can stare at these for hours on end they are so gorgeous.

You will fall in love with Rohit's photos of people and portraits. Snatching a moment in time and oddly enough, he seems to capture their thoughts right at that particular moment if you look closely enough.

You definitely won't want to miss out on his Architecture shots either, here you will find some incredible architecture beautiful in it's own right, and absolutely breathtaking when Rohit brings forward their details.

Daily Pictures from South Africa

"This is a blog about Bloemfontein, otherwise known as the "City of Roses". It is situated in Central South Africa, in a province called the Free State. We are not close to the ocean, so my pics will be about city life!"

Meet Marieta and Dawn , sharing the rich beauty and culture of South Africa in their delightful Photoblog. One of my favorite photos would be the one featured here of handsome Fred, sitting on his lazy chair as the sun beams seem to magnify his royal disposition. Of course, I am biased as I own two such creatures myself and have never met a basset hound that I didn't love dearly.

The photos are capturing of the South African culture and spirit, each in their own way dragging us in to experience the richness of South Africa. From city life and rainbows, markets and wrestling merecats - Marieta and Dawn succeed by inviting us to share in the daily life of their country.

Visit the home of Suby & Sin to enjoy a great collection photographs. They did not enter themselves in this contest nor were they nominated - it is all of my fault this time folks. I can't let this wonderful photoblog slip by unnoticed. In a team effort Suby & Sin bring us gorgeous shots, many of people; capturing the moments and the faces of life in motion.

Not only do they share super people shots, but gorgeous architecture, nature and animals are tossed in also. I love the Tuxedo Kitty and his awesome expression. Can you see how thrilled he seems to be about being in focus? Of course not, yet you can almost hear him saying, "Hey there. I'm a professional pouncer. I am the expert on sneak and capture. Who are you trying to fool here?" The character of Tuxedo Kitty has so much character and I love it.

Makes me think, we need to tie a small camera to his collar and see how kitty looks at things.

Our next Mix Pix Photoblog winner is an amazing photographer, poet and philosopher. His amazing photos are not only professional they challenge us - to look deeper and to interact. My favorite aspect of photography is the capturing of character, as I may have mentioned here before. Seeing the spunk of a kitten, the inquisitiveness of an opening flower or the shadows of a society. Many photos have character and the challenge is to bring that forward.

Yet here while enjoying the Photography of Linus, I found a remarkable and distinctive aspect. While looking into many of his photographs you will soon see that it was he, that captured your own character. They remind us of who we are and shines light on our prospectives.

I am almost certain that we will soon be seeing more of Linus in the near future in the professional world. For certain photography by a professional graphic designer would have to be incredible and here, Navin Harrish does not disappoint us with his Photoblog. If you love rainy days as much as I do, be sure not to miss his latest gallery on the good, the bad and the downright ugly for some soggy but amazing photography.

I was very intrigued by his post "Charms" where Navin stumbles across a cigarette pack nestled in between a few rocks. Returning the next day he captures it and a message that is up to you, the viewer, to digress. His photography seems to make us think, remember and often dream. I absolutely love this angle while viewing photography.

Be sure to visit his archived collections also. I have always been fascinated with the cultures of India, the beautiful architecture and arts are so deep rooted in a history of inspiration. To see the effects of the modern world embraced by this gorgeous country will also leave you in wonder and awe.

Every now and then you'll run across a photo of his darling son, Manu. Let there be no doubt Navin's boy is a genius as he attempts to run away wearing Daddy's shoes. A real cutie for sure. Speaking of capturing people, this is also an aspect that Navin does very well.

For our next Mix Pix Photoblog Award winner meet MrC. Many of his wonderful shots are directly from nature and MrC has the eye to spot the awesome way that nature reveals itself.

One thing I have really enjoyed by reviewing Photoblogs would be that I get the same exhilarating enchantment that comes with taking a walk with my 3 year old daughter. She often stops, short and in front of me to examine something she finds interesting. If I manage to not trip and fall over her and if I'm not rushed or in a hurry - I can stoop right down and explore with her.

MrC offers a short description of his photo as well as the things he had done to enhance the photograph. Often he'll tweak the colors or saturation, but just as often he submits a photo in it's purest form. Au natural. He has captured some incredible sunrises and sunsets that will leave you breathless just as he has left the photo untouched. You can feel the warmth of the sun rising just by viewing the photo.

Monochrome shots with just a splash of color are becoming quite common and also becoming a favorite of mine. MrC has brought this to an artform - in just the right style and subtle way. His work is fabulous through his abstracts to his nature shots. For having many photographic talents, let us congratulate MrC for being our next Mix Pix Award Winner.

For our next Mix Pix award meet Norm! I've been blessed to be an acquaintance of Norm for a few years now and know him not only as a wonderful photographer but as an awesome guy with a great sense of humor. You'll notice on his site that he hasn't "blogged" yet, but hang in there he will and we will all be blown off of our computer chairs when he does.

Most of Norm's work has been done in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He includes a bit of history and of his experience with each photo featured in his gallery. Of course, choosing a photograph to go along with this review has been a very difficult choice. This one I had chose because I admire Norm's ability and talent when working with lighting in his photography. He is amazing!

Meet Timmybomb, an photoblogger from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As many photobloggers he is very tough on his own critiques striving to capture that one perfect photo. Sound familiar? However just one look at these gorgeous shots I can definitely see his angle and am loving it!

With each photo this blogger shares his experiences and thoughts during the taking of the photo. "I don't do mornings" is all telling and the corresponding photo is a perfect image of the morning blues. Incredible!

His nature photos are spectacular and the cloudage supreme! I really like the way he's done up this review's feature photo, "Listen". It is truly amazing the photo opportunities available while waiting at a red light. Spontaneous, accidental shots - often turn out to be our most memorable.

A simply delightful closeup of a bird's nest containing four delicate eggs and capturing the details of the different nesting materials used to shelter these soon-to-be hatchlings. I can hardly wait to see if she can capture their birthday!

Speaking of birds, be sure not to miss the amazing shot of a hummingbird! So fast and flighty, yet frozen in time as it sips from her hummingbird feeder. An amazing feat for I can barely catch a glimpse of my visiting hummers let alone a shot as amazing as these.

Meet Tony from SW London, he began his love for art in painting but lately has found his artistic outlet in photography. One of the first photos that caught my eye while visiting Tony was a gorgeous summer solstice sunset! (Cloudage!)

Included also on the recent posts are some awesome architecture shots that are truly amazing. Some lovely wildflowers, peace lilies, giant water lilies and even a seemingly lost wallaby! (A resident of Kew Gardens of course.)

You must also search through Tony's previous archives from months earlier as you will certainly find many treasures and inspirations. Again, I am have difficulty deciding on a photo to include next to this review. These shots are incredible and so full of character. The diverse culture, life and seasons of Great Britain seem to jump right out and pull you in. Pulling you into the past, current and sometimes futuristic aspiring scenes that Tony has completely captured.

A squirrel, bugs, butterflys, flowers - nature at it's finest when Steve get's behind his camera and starts clicking away. Some great shots of horny toads (the act of being not the species) and many beloved shots of awesome cloudage also!

Steve may be this Photoblog's owner but it is certainly 'Pickle' his gorgeous kitty who steals the show. It is almost as if we are seeing nature from this kitty's point of view. "Get ready to pounce on some great photo opportunities Dad! Let's go outside and play!"

The focus and close-up shots are incredible. Capturing the detail from the tiniest grain of pollen to the furry legs of a housefly. It's enough to make me want to toss my Oympus out the window!

Check out Tim's Photoblog from Anchorage, Alaska as well as his archived photos of gorgeous Churches, Alaskan Mountains to Florida Swamplands. Time slipping moments captured in people photography and many awesome aerial views.

My only complaint would be the absence of a "Next" or "Previous" link to help us better enjoy his fantastic photos of places and people. Even without - his amazing photos are worth the time and effort to search the archives for.

I'm having a hard time trying to pick a favorite to include next to Tim's review here but I seem to enjoy the chill and thrill of this snow covered camping spot! (featured photo) His black & whites are breathtaking and to view the snow topped mountains behind a spring seasoned green field with yellow flowers is truly a site to see. I have never been to Alaska and now after visiting Tim's site I am longing to go.

Here is a gorgeous Photoblog by Laurie. After 25 years and now that her kids are older, she has rediscovered the wonders of photography. She is new at digital photography so if any of our pros have any hints for her be sure to visit and pass them on! Although she is new, don't let that fool you - she has an eye for beauty and has captured the essence in many of her photos.

Her photos feature beautiful architecture, flowers and wildlife - wonderfully captured in a moment of time to keep forever. I'll will admit that I favor many of her photos because she is from my home state of NJ. Many of her wonderful scenery shots are of many of my favorite and mostly missed places.

Not to mention, she can capture CLOUDAGE! Yes, I love the many different aura's that we see in our heavens each day. Each morning we're awakened with an entire new picture. I absolutely love cloudage!! Even storm clouds.

For example this Dad asks regarding Birthday Parties: "Why do we spend so much money on automobiles and car seats with high safety ratings, helmets, and pads for every joint on their body, yet have no problem placing a flaming piece of pastry mere inches from our children's faces?"

In the midst of switching from the crib to Big Boy Bed this Dad is finding out what freedom means to a 2 year old. Two suggestions Dad: 1) A hook & eye latch on his door placed high for your benefit. 2) A webcam set-up in the little guy's room to keep an eye out for him. Sure, it is a tad bit Big Brotherish but I guarantee you'll capture some great footage in the months to come.

Darth Daddy

Meet Darth Daddy a hilarious blog by an equally hilarious Dad - letting off the steam, the laughter and all of the wonders that Fatherhood brings.

The title of this blog even made me chuckle. If my husband and I are blessed to have another child and if it is a boy - his name will be Luke. Why? Because we like the name but Dad really wants to be able to say, "Luke, I am your father." (What a nut!)

This Dad is hilarious, oh but I mentioned that already didn't I? His writings are complimented with many pictures of moments that can't be missed and brings the blog to life. He is also a realist and won't stop to blog only about those special moments but those frustrating moments that fall into every parents life every so often as well. Well - in my situation, sometimes more often than not. But, that is life with a 3 year old for you.

Silly Dad

We've all heard about Stay at Home Moms yet many seem to have misgivings over the notion of Stay at Home Dads. Don't! Today if you have kids and especially if #5 is on the way - keeping Dad home while Mom heads off to work can be a wise and economical decision. Daycare costs can be excruciating and much of the time the cost is in line with the quality of care given to your children.

Running a household takes teamwork and in itself there are many positions to be filled. Now I'll grant those readers out there who are skeptical one point, that not everyone is fit to be a stay at home parent. This goes for women just as much as it goes for men. Take the popular sitcom "Married with Children" if Peg Bundy was the shoe salesperson and Al remained at home. The entire situation would had been portrayed quite differently. Although I suspect, still a bit dysfunctional for our entertainment purposes.

This Dad's blog provides a guidebook and journal of his efforts and his shining results as an example for anyone who falls into a Stay at Home Parent position. Amazing, this Dad can take his kids out on a fishing trip - it rains, yet they still have a ball as revealed by the pictures of their smiling faces. Chocolate Makes it Better

My first thought after reading the title of this Dad's Blog, was "Whoa there, hold on Nelly! Chocolate is something only women know anything about." However as this blog implies, "When you've got kids, chocolate helps you cope."

As I sit here this afternoon with this review, I can say the same and give praise to afternoon naptime! Now if only I can squeeze in a nap.

This Dad is currently taking a little blogging break and perfectly understandable as blogging alone can be a full-time job. Raising kids also and that is why this is a "Dad Blog" that is a pleasure to read. You'll laugh out loud reading the "The difference between boys and girls" and you'll wince in jealousy after reading what an easy time this Dad is having in the potty training department.

His template is easy on the eyes and the blog easy to navigate. Don't let his profile photo mislead you, this Aussie Dad has admitted that he is going bald at age 27. Never fear Dad, you still own those disappearing hair follicles, they merely moved south to add character and texture to your shoulders, back and butt-cheeks.

If you can't read Spanish, find a translator because this is a Dad blog you wouldn't want to miss. Here's a Dad from Spain who flew to Miami, Florida and jumped upon a Harley Davidson to drive coast to coast (and planning to drive back) with his Sweetheart.

If you are into riding or if you'd just like to read about a Dad finally doing what he dreamed of doing all of his life go and take a peek! According to the Map this Dad started from Miami and to date is enjoying the stay at the Grand Canyon. A site even I have yet to see and can't wait for the opportunity.

My chances of conceiving were also slim to none, but miraculously I became pregnant with my precious little girl at the age of 35.

Couples discouraged with infertility have a variety of choices and each decision comes with risks, concerns, debates and many other issues. This Dad offers an informative site and provides peace of mind and support for all concerned with infertility issues and the choices a couple have made.

"Twinkle, twinkle little star" is also my daughter's favorite. Word to the wise, don't buy her a electronic drum set just yet... we made that mistake and now I must buy stock in headache medicine.

Although sometimes subtly by busting a stinky fart, leaving socks strewn on the floor or crumbs on the counter. Often loudly by declaring his love and pride for his wonderful family.

His template is clean and I can imagine Dad on the beach buried in sand castles as he enjoys his family time together with his wife and kids. I can also imagine him sneaking a peek now and then at the hotties in thongs walking by now and again, but we don't want to get him into any trouble now, do we?

From a wonderful blog writer who honors our soldiers here's a recent post regarding Memorial Day:

"Memorial Day is much more than a three-day weekend filled with cookouts and Memorial Day sales. While to some it may the official start of summer, to others, especially the nation's thousands of combat veterans, this day, which has a history stretching back all the way to the Civil War, it is a solemn reminder of those who gave the last full measure of devotion in the service of their country.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:

The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

During the first celebration of Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery.

By the late 1800s, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day and, after World War I, observances also began to honor those who had died in all of America's wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last Monday in May.

Today, Memorial Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony in which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Also, it is customary for the president or vice-president to give a speech honoring the contributions of the dead and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. About 5,000 people attend the ceremony annually. "

My Daughter's Heroes

The following story was submitted to me by a proud Mom.

"You may be wondering what you are looking at. This is a wall my daughter started when she was 14, I believe. Those are pictures of our military men and women.

It all began when the war started and I walked into her bedroom to find a small picture cut from the paper taped to her wall. She said "Mommy I hope you don't mind, but this way I can remember to pray for his family" wow, mind, i surely didn't mind tape on the walls for this. well this grew and grew until it covered 2 complete walls and part of a third. She gave up her room willingly for her little brother to have more room for his growing boy toys. She kept her photos and one day wants to scrapbook them..in the meantime there has been many times of prayer for these families..I am so proud of her and found this picture to share..Please remember to keep our men and women in your prayers..God has a purpose for all of this hurt and one day we will see His glory in it. Honor them for they are our heroes. God bless them each and every one."

Thank you Mom for sharing this touching story of your Daughter's Heroes. I was so deeply moved and I know for certain the many soldiers, their families and others who come across this site will be blessed. Happy Memorial Day and be sure to give your daughter a great big hug from all of us!

Iron Soldiers

Here is a magnificent blog by the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 28th Infantry Division, currently deployed in Ramadi, Iraq. This team is comprised of 5500 soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen from over 33 different states. Also training and supporting approximately 4,000 Iraqi Security forces

"Some people ask what is the hardest thing to deal with here. Is it the dangers that exist? The separation from loved ones is the hardest thing to deal with. We all love and miss our families and friends. Losing comrades is also tough and our thoughts and prayers always go out to the loved ones of our fallen warriors."

As a Brigade Commander he reports that the troops display a tremendous resolve and are even more determined than ever to put forth great effort in order to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Just a Simple Soldier

He was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,
As he sat around the Legion telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done.
In his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, everyone.

And 'tho sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer, for ol' Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer, for a soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many, just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary, very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family, quietly going on his way;
And the world won't note his passing; 'tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories, from the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier, goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution, to the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise and cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow, who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?

The politician's stipend and the style in which he lives,
Are sometimes disproportionate, to the service that he gives.

While the ordinary soldier, who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal and perhaps a pension, small.

It's so easy to forget them, for it is so long ago,
That our Bob's and Jim's and Johnny's, went to battle, but we know.

It was not the politicians, with their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom, that our Country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger, with your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out, with his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier, who has sworn to defend,
His home, his kin, his Country, and would fight until the end?

He was just a common Soldier and his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us, we may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict, then we find the Soldier's part,
Is to clean up all the troubles, that the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor, while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage, at the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline, in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY.

This blog is by Matthew D. LaPlante, a military and homeland security reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune. He and photographer Rick Egan traveled to Iraq in September and October of 2005 on a quest to bring the voices of our troops home to their home-state of Utah.

While sharing with us the stories, concerns and hopes of these brave men and women, Mr. LaPlante soon found himself reporting from a Memorial Service held at Camp Ramadi in the Mess Hall. This reporter brilliantly brings home the reality of war. Returning home he decides, this blog will not end there;

"Each day, in these war zones, is a new story. Each moment a new tale. For those at home, the agonizing moments that pass are no less compelling. No less important.
And in these stories is this promise: That war will not be so distant, so easy to ignore, so easy to forget."

Although this blog is focused on the troops who serve in various branches of armed services in Utah; there are carbon copies of these memoirs in every state across our great nation.

This wonderful work should be printed and published in a hardbound book form and sitting on coffee tables everywhere. Night Watch - Dedication to US Marines

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. "Your son is here," she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand.

The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement. The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength.

Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night. Along towards dawn, the old man died.

The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited. Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.

"Who was that man?" he asked.

The nurse was startled, "He was your father" she answered.

"No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life."

"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?" asked the Nurse.

"I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me. I stayed."

As always, this Marine fulfilled a duty.

The next time someone needs you...be there. Stay. You'll be glad you did.

This blog also has uplifting quotes and notes of encouragement for everyone and you need not have to believe in the current war or know a troop personally to appreciate the patriotic inspiration. Its a sure must read to get us all in the spirit of Memorial Day.

This Sergeant Major is on the beat and up to date with "Good News!" stories such as welcoming home a Fallen Hero who has been MIA since 1950. For our final Mother's Day Award let me introduce you to this wonderful Mom from Texas. A fantastic writer and a Mom, who much like myself - had her children later in life. Her youngest has just entered his teens and turned 13 today so a big Happy Birthday as well as a Mother's Day to this family.

Her template is the standard Blogger issue blue, but I love it and it's simplicity. It is her writing that brings this blog alive and her style. She is absolutely incredible. Her photos help to describe her day and she doesn't have your typical Mom kind of day, so it seems!

Ramblings of a SAHM

Here's another Mom with her hands full. She is a Stay at Home Mom of an 8 year old son, 7 year old identical twins, 4 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. I'll never ever complain about being too busy ever again! She is also a Girl Scout Brownie leader for her twin's troop - bringing even more giggles and joy into her open arms.

She admits there are sometimes she feels as if she's running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Even still she does manage to find free time to read, knit, fold laundry, sleep and slip in a blog to give a shout on what her kids are up to and to share pictures.

Her template is original and very neat. I love the navigator bar up top that brings you to the different areas such as pictures and scrapbooks. I need something similar to simplify my sidebar and will have to ask this Mom for some tips!

She's truly dedicated to her kids and doesn't seem to consider loosing her identity in being a Mother - but instead Motherhood deepens her identity. She knits and writes fiction fantasy novels in her spare time and I have a feeling that her kids must give her loads of material on which to write about. The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. The guide said: "Yes, and the way is hard. You will be old before you reach the end of it, but the end will be better than the beginning."

The young Mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. She played with her children and gathered flowers for them along the way. She bathed them in the clear streams; and the sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this."

Then the night came, then the storm and the path was dark. The children shook with fear and cold, and their Mother drew them close and covered them with her mantle. The children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near and no harm can come."

The morning came and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. At all times she said to the children," A little patience and we are there." So the children climbed, and when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have done it without you."

That evening the Mother, when she lay down at night looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned fortitude in the face of hardness. Yesterday I gave them courage. Today, I 've given them strength."

The next day brought strange clouds which darkened the earth, clouds of war and hate and evil. The children groped and stumbled as their Mother said: "Look up. Lift your eyes to the light." The children looked and saw above the clouds an everlasting glory, and it guided them beyond the darkness. That evening the Mother said, "This is the best day of all, for I have shown my children God."

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years. The mother grew old and she was little and bent, but her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. When the way was rough, they lifted her, for she was as light as a feather. At last they came to a hill, and beyond they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. That is when Mother said, "I have reached the end of my journey and now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk alone, and their children after them."

And the children said, "You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." They stood and watched her as she went on alone, and when the gates closed after her they said: "We cannot see her but she is with us still. A Mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence."

Your Mother is always with you. She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives inside your laughter and she's crystallized in every tear drop. She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love and your first heartbreak and nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space... not even death.

Now and Then

Today's Mom has been on the move. Spending much of her life in South Africa, five years in the US and now laying her head in England she's well cultured, well versed and an incredible writer. I love the English Accent of South Africans and other various places and although this Mom may not realize it... her accent comes through in her writing and it's absolutely charming.

She began blogging as a way to keep in touch with friends in South Africa but found blogging to be a wonderful outlet to let off steam and to free her mind's concerns. Blogging since 2003 she has found that like a journal - she enjoys reading back through her entries and finding herself amazed how much her life has changed.

The template is a simple white, which by now many of you know that I like. It gives off that clean, fresh piece of paper feeling. Like fresh white sheets smelling April Fresh. My only yipe about the design would be how the Blogger header chops the title in half. Try putting a break code (br) directly under the (body) tag in your template. If that's not enough add another or a few (p)'s. Either or should pull that down some for you. If not, maybe a Banner/Header graphic with a high top would slip in quite nicely.

However, this Mom's writing is so much fun. Now with two teenagers there is never a dull moment and each tomorrow brings with it new challenges to face. She juggles her responsibilities with grace despite another ball or two getting thrown into the act. She's full of life, vigor and spots the rays of light even on the dreariest of days. For this, a certain "Mix Pix Award". Happy Mother's Day! -Mix

..and baby makes 6!

Of course all Mom's often say their kids are angels - more so while they are sleeping. Although all children are precious and beautiful... this Mom has 3 handsome boys and one little darling Angel. From the sounds of things they even eat their vegetables! We had to cave in a buy a Guinea Pig to encourage how yummy carrot sticks, celery stalks and broccoli can be. It also worked wonders!

This Mom started blogging in 2003 as a way to vent while pregnant with her daughter. She was a basket of nerves during her pregnancy after experiencing 4 previous miscarriages. Blogging was a way to release her fears and journal her joyous memories in pregnancy.

The template is clean, white and very neat. The beautiful soft-edged photo of her Angels adds to display these four adorable gifts from heaven. She's funny, bright and you'll find her writing very enjoyable, as did I.

Being a Mother to four the biggest challenge she faces is figuring out how to spend time fully and equally with each one. I can understand how difficult that can be. Just a suggestion from another Mom that I know with "four kids". Each Saturday of the month she has what they call a "Mommy Date" with one of her four sons. They do a variety of different things, even just running errands and stopping for a ice cream means a whole lot. The other three sons stay with Daddy for those few hours. However, here is the clincher... It's a Mommy Date. So her son must practice chivalry (holding doors open, carrying things, etc.) yet at the same time, she pays full attention to him, his week, his concerns and his dreams. It seems to work wonders.

Overall, this Mom takes the cake - with singing tree-frogs in her house and 3 boys... I'm so happy to see she has a little girl now to help combat the testosterone that must be flying around in her home. LOL! Great blogging Mom! Happy Mother's Day! -Mix

Sleeping Mommy

If our kids can express themselves in shrieks, screams and oodles of joy, so can us Mothers. Here's a Mom rediscovering herself and her beautiful writing talents.

She's in the midst of remodeling so you certainly wouldn't want to miss out on the chaos at hand in there lately. If she only lived nearby I'd be glad to help her out and watch her kids for a few so she can get something done.

Then again, she just got a new couch! I'm jealous, for we are still stuck with the stained "747 Sized" sofa that came with our house when we bought it. Never fear, as soon as the IRS gets on the ball with our return - the FUTON will arrive! Yes, the Futon. Plastic covering available and you can change and wash the covers whenever you desire.

With three children ages 4.5, 3 and 18 months you may wonder, "How can this Mom ever be sleeping?"

It's because she has a precious gift in a Guardian Angel Grandpa to help keep watch over the little ones. The sweetest blessings of all; prayers, hopes and love - passed down from 'parent to children' over the generations.

The first decade of marriage and kids is full of sacrifices and many memories. This Mom doesn't miss a beat and she is well on her way to achieving her goals. For such drive and inspiration I present a "Mix Pix Award" to yet another amazing Super Mom! -Mix

Mom to the Screaming Masses

A stay at home Mom to six kids ranging from the ages of 2-14 this Mom is amazing. When she's not scaling Mt. Laundry, cleaning, carpooling or cooking she takes time for herself reading, writing and running.

It seems like her blog has a new look and I love it! The template is dashing and the top banner displays six little pairs of feet sticking in the air. It reads; "Picking up your socks since 1992." I'm left to wonder how does this mom keep track of all the socks in her laundry and know which pair belongs to whom?

I will have to admit I'm playing a bit of favoritism here as this Mom's writing reminds me so much of my own Mom's fun and positive attitude. For her inspirational, uplifting and enjoyable writing - I present the next "Mix Pix Award".

The Big Yellow House

This Mom is a hoot! She has seven children, homeschools all of them and still remains sane! (Well okay, most of the time.) Reading this Mom's everyday happenings is side splitting fun and laughs as she eventually takes the high road of blessings of a day gone by.

Here I am with only one and grumbling over finding 17 raw eggs in the fish aquarium. Wracking my brains wondering when they were dropped in there! This was a new 18 pack minus one... that I later located in my bathtub. What in the name of tarnation goes through the creative minds of our kids these days?

What we do know, is what goes through the mind of a Super Mom here at The Big Yellow House. Never holding back and calling it as she sees it - reading this blog can cheer up your dreariest day.

The Template is clean and GASP! Yellow! A calming pinapple sort of yellow vs. the migraine bring about Caution Sign yellow. She shares lots of pictures, but not that you would need any visual help as this Mom's writing is so colorful.

Wife, mother to three and grandmother of a 2 year old, this Mom is blessed and very busy. My sisters and I are all 6 years apart and I know how challenging it must be to have three different stages and their issues going on at the same time. God Bless you Mom!

A lady after my own heart as she writes and shares some beautiful poetry. She also loves to read which is one of my favorite things to do. She has quite a few "Mom" books on her book-stand and a few of those I'm sure to write on my list of books yet to read.

The template is fun, country style with the Title Banner featuring a basket of fresh picked flowers and a gardening hat sitting by an open window. It's fresh, pretty and very charming.

Basically this Mom blogs about her family, from outings to what has happened this past week. Colorfully written she finds a bright spark in even her darkest moments. She's dealt with many child-rearing issues and she offers sound and creative prospectives on how she is dealing with them. Hip Momma

I love this Mom's blog design. It's mellow, funky and feminine. Most of all, just like it's title suggests it is "Hip" and this Momma's got it all going on.

As a single Mother who is working, going to school and trying to keep it all together she suggests she's a terrible blogger. I'm amazed she even finds any time at all to sign on and rant a few lines. Yet here she is making much needed time for herself and others by sharing her thoughts. Amazing.

My Aunt who was a single mother of two - had explained single motherhood to me like this:

"It's great because you get to grow-up with your kids."

Take it from an ex-kid who had grown-up, know-it-all parents (whom I adore greatly by the way), having a Hip Mom must be the be all end all. The only problematic outlook I can see from a kid's point of view would be the fact that Mom is on the ball and is on to my tricks. From a Mother point of view - that's a great thing.

To this Mom who blogs I present the "Mix Pix Award". I wish I had a Supermom button and a gift certificate for a day at the spa to give away; for this Mom deserves it.

This Mom Blogs to share her daughter's pictures and progress with family and friends who live out-of-state. Something I'm very familiar with as our closest family member is well over 800 miles away. I better update photos and happenings often or else I'm going to hear about it. What is so wonderful about this, is that our kids aren't just "our kids." They are someone's nieces, nephew, grandchildren and god-children. While our kids mean the world to us, they also brighten up the world of others who love them so dearly.

This Mom's biggest challenge in becoming a new mother is the fact she has returned to work. She's found a new longing for the weekends because she gets to spend more time with her daughter. How can anyone blame her, just look at this adorable cutie-bug!

Yet, at the same time - returning to work has enabled this Mom to keep her own identity and has even added to her vast talents and interests. Scrapbooking just to mention one. I often spend a homesick moment and pull out one of the many boxes or scrapbooks my own Mother had put together many years ago. The memories warm me, the box of school-pictures and artwork remind me that I had a Mom who believed in me. The velvet pull-string bag full of my baby teeth make me wonder what my Mom was thinking when she felt the need to save these knarly little pearls.

Graphically, the blog design is simple - which works great and doesn't distract us from seeing the simple beauty of a new Mom proudly displaying such a cute little button.

Speaking of buttons... a sure "Mix Pix Award" for this week. Thanks Mom for sharing your precious memories. -Mix

Before anyone pounds me over this one, take off the Soccer Mom Sweater and hear me out for a moment.

In today's diverse society Mothers come in a variety of flavors. You don't have to acquire a license, a diploma or have a clean bill of health; physically or mentally. All that is required to be defined as a Mother - is a child.

I've mentioned "reality" in previous reviews and on this site - reality takes a different turn. Alcoholics can be and have become Mothers. Children can be and have become Alcoholics.

This Mom is documenting the struggle.

Why give her a "Mix Pix Award" you ask?

The answer is simple... I prayed last night. While doing so I was convicted of my own shortcomings. You know, those things that nobody else knows about because we never speak them. Such as my own angry thoughts during those rare times when I see my daughter as an inconvenience instead of the precious and beautiful miracle that I was blessed with.

I didn't feel guilty long, for soon I felt the heavenly hugs of an Angel's wings as my daughter came looking for me, wondering where I had gone off to. She loves me and I really do love her.

The "Mix Pix Award" is because I believe. I believe this Mom will conquer her struggles and guide many Mothers out of their own dark valleys by someday sharing the freedom that love and forgiveness can bring.

I believe in her children also, for their hugs will set her free. -Mix

Ramblings of a Redneck Diva

What happens when you marry a redneck, settle down and have a few kids? It's all right here folded together and baked to perfection like a sweet potato pie!

For those of you who don't know me - I'm what they consider a "Yankee" down here in the south. A "Damn Yankee" at that, for I visited - then went back to NJ only to rent a UHaul and move south. Southern Hospitality and Comfort tend to grow on a gal and before you know it - you are full of charm.

Dare I say this site is "reality" at it's finest. I also; left the laundry room yesterday afternoon empty - so what on God's green earth had happened since then? Buying Bras? You mean it is possible to do that as a Mom? This Mom has found a way....

...and has found a way to be nominated for a Mix-Pix-Award!

The Template is also sexy and fun. This Mom is "barefootin' it" Bloggy Style. I get a funny feeling this Mom literally "lassos" her kids in for suppertime, but hey... if it works, go for it!

Mama Drama

This Blog features a group of five Mommies, teaming up together to offer sound, encouraging and humorous prospectives concerning the trials of Motherhood. Their children range in age from newborns to teenagers; offering up a little something for every Mom who visits this site.

They share everything from "sweeping swooning teenagers off their porch-steps", mopping up spills and sleepless nights of worries and concerns. Teamwork at it's finest, with five creative, caring, intelligent and cultured Moms to help guide us through the worst of times and smile with the best.

As for the blog design, they seem to be on a typical local host that probably doesn't offer the quirks, smirks and 'my-space' goodies that many other blogging hosts offer. However, it's professional - clean and up-front. Searching the sidebar and archives is simple and there is a minimal commercial use of this site. No 'pop-up' ads either, which is a great thing for me. 'Pop-Up's" wig me out. It's an old "Jack-in-the-box" phobia... don't ask me to explain it, my story may give you nightmares.

Overall, beautiful teamwork - and very entertaining writing styles all come together and make this site work. I really enjoyed reading this one. -Mix

This Mom Blogs!

Whoever says that "Mom's who Blog" can't be cool - are missing the boat! With four kids and a set of twins to boot, this Mom has it going on and this blog is her outlet.

All too often I have seen Mom's who loose themselves and their identity in the everyday hustle and bustle of running a household and raising children. Not this Mom, she knows who she is, knows what she wants and is not afraid to be herself, let her hair down and have some fun. I love it!

Her template screams sexy and as a Mom myself about to turn 39 - sexy is in! (Well okay, I decided to raise our daughter to be a plastic surgeon so she can someday fix what pregnancy did to her Mommy for free - but that's in another 30 years from now.) The red, satin texture of the graphics keep her Hubby shouting "Hubba-Hubba" for mercy while at the same time letting her kids know, she's the coolest Mom on the block.

Amazing! Dashing! Fun! Amusing! This Mom's writing style is sure to keep you in stitches and busting your buttons. Speaking of which... This Mom Blog is worthy of a Mix-Pix Button!

Overactive Imagination

Wow! Here's a proud Mom of 2 beautiful daughters painting up the Blogosphere with encouraging words! Another terrific writer and "Mom who Blogs" The pictures that she has shared of her daughter's recent wedding are gorgeous and I can only imagine how wonderful the wedding was for everyone.

Recently divorced and hauling it on her own and in her own style, this Mom has a great strength that is contagious. Her posts and archives share her thoughts, imagination and awkward moments. This sharing allows other women, in similar positions to build up encouragement and confidence. No matter how bad things may seem or get - you can overcome and be happy and content.

Another "Lighthouse" Blogger Template Freebie design. It is a pretty design for a Blogger Freebie but I feel that it fails to express this Mom's "go-get-em" attitude and happiness. I'd suggest for her to save her "sidebar goodies aside" and try out a new more colorful Blogger Design. There are many at the Blogger Site or take a look at these free template designs.

The only other part I would consider changing would be the Blog's Title, "Overactive Imagination".... it sends off the wrong kind of vibe. If available, try "Imagine" alone - for you're definitely a Mom who in John Lennon's words, can "Imagine" the very best for everyone who crosses your path, including yourself. A great example to your two young daughters and therefore worthy of today's "Mix Pix Award"!

Lory's Blog

For our next pick for "Mom's who Blog" take a peek at Lory's Blog. Her writing is so colorful and detailed and if you are a Mom who blogs - you can relate on how her days have been going.

"There's a bee in the house" and I can sense the concerns of this Mom and can hear the little voices questioning about the biology of a bee. I can also sense the awe and sensation when Dad comes in and smushes the poor bee to oblivion. Dad's a hero, of course - but don't tell the bee that!

On the questions that kids ask to the "Mommy reward" of a sidewalk chalk drawing, this Mommy does rule!

Although only acquainted a year to the world of blogging, this Mom has what it takes to write. Her template is a simple Blogger-design but from the looks of her daughters sidewalk drawings - there is a "graphic artist in the making" here folks! For the way she encourages her children and centers them in her life and actions, this Mom is everything she's "chalked" up to be.

Sister Robin

Our Next "Mom's Who Blog" favorite is Sister Robin. A young, inspiring young Christian woman, wife and mother whom I admire greatly. I adore her not for her perfect ways but for her "all so real" experiences and willingness to remind other like minded women - how life on this blue spinning planet, isn't "heaven on earth" just yet.

Sure we have happy moments, giggles and laughs, but for each of these we all share concerns, worries and heartaches. Ooops, did I forget to mention "responsibilities?" Mother's have a variety of responsibilities, from the small ones such as doing dishes, laundry and preparing bubble baths to the much bigger responsibilities such as raising, guiding and protecting our children from this mean ole' planet and it's evils.

If you're a married Mom, add MORE responsibilities. If you are a Mom in College - add even more!

For a busy Mom there are many times when there isn't anyone to talk to who listens. Blogging offers an outlet for our rants and experiences. It's a journal of sorts, sharing and encouraging other Mother's that they are not alone in the best of times as well as the bad. For this openness, sincerity and willingness to share I offer Sister Robin the "Mix Pix Award".

Stupidity Irks Me

Although this blog doesn't mention much about Motherhood, it is kept by a "Mom who Blogs". I absolutely love her sense of humor towards the everyday "Darwin Award Winning" news-makers. You know the type, the kind that never ever employ the Common Sisters: "Common Sense and Common Courtesy."

The template is simple, vanilla in flavor - yet light, easy to read. It perhaps could use a little graphic here and there and a eye-catching but not eye-bugging script of sorts to give it a little umph. Then again, I'm left to wonder, "How does one graphically depict another's stupidity?" Very carefully I would suggest - as to not look silly yourself. (As I do for example - but I'm certifiably crazy, no excuses for me to make in that department!)

Overall, the creative - fun and enlightening writing of this Mom makes this Blog a sure winner. Too often, our daily news is full of grief, sadness and strife. Being able to look at things in an entertaining light and not give up hope for all humanity - but instead to share, as this Mom does. Is worthy of a Mix-Pix Award!

Congratulations to our first award winner of the "Mom's Who Blog" contest!

I have chosen this site for many reasons: The site design is simple and yet elegant. The color pink is subtly used and not reminiscent of Lucille Ball's lipstick, unlike other "pink blogs" I have come across. The translucent screening over the blog and sidebar is one of my favorite effects. The borders and title bars are soft and delicate. Amazing graphic work and design!

Above all, I love this Mom's creative writing, humor and style!. She truly reflects the joys as well as the lovable mishaps that Motherhood brings. Not to mention having a 4 year old, newborn and the ability to find time to sneak in a blog-post - is amazing to say the least.
